매력이란 이런 것~!! BMW MINI 용산 전시장방문기

며칠전 페이스북을 통하여 신청한 BMW MINI 시승을 위하여 주말에 KT용산지사에 위치한 BMW MINI 용산전시장을 방문하게 되었습니다.

먼저 해당 자동차에 대한 이야기를 하기 전에 사람의 인연에 대한 이야기를 해야 할 것 같습니다.

이전에 연락 오셨던 딜러분과의 통화에서 원래 시승을 위한 JCW 시간적으로 시승이 힘든 관계로 아무런 MINI를 시승해도 좋다는 내용의 통화와 일요일에 서로 시간을 맞추었으나 서로간의 전화상 소통의 문제였는지 해당 지점에서 전화를 주셨던 딜러분을 찾지는 못했습니다.

사실 문자를 확실히 더 받고 찾아갔어야 하는데 저의 부주의도 있었던 것 같습니다.

이번에 시승을 하며 360도 카메라 등으로 잠깐 주행하는 영상도 찍고 싶었으나 이미 마음이 멀어진터라, 매장에 전시된 MINI에 대한 이야기와 시장 상황 등을 확인하고자 하였습니다.

여러 정황을 설명들은 도이치 모터스 “최은성” 딜러님의 친절한 설명과 협조 덕분에 비록 시승은 다음 기회로 미루기로 했지만, 스틸 사진의 촬영도 많이 하고 자유롭게 매장에서 궁금증도 많이 풀게 되었습니다. 우선 감사의 인사 전합니다. 사람의 만남이 이렇게 바뀌기도 합니다.

이미 과거의 리뷰 등에서 언급한 것과 같이 필자는 BMW MINI를 좋아합니다.

이 차가 가진 그 만의 매력에 미니 보다 월등히 성능이 좋은 차에서도 하지 않는 일명 칼치기를 가끔 할 만큼 미니가 가지고 있는 운동성과 차에 대한 믿음이 크다고 할 수 있습니다.

일반적으로 미니라는 자동차가 작다고들 이야기 하지만 실제로 탑승을 해보면 작다는 표현보다 안락하다는 말이 맞다고 해야 할 것 입니다.

분명 실내를 넓게 잘 뽑아내는 국산차에 비해서 그 크기가 작게 느껴지는 것은 사실인데요.

그러나 미니를 직접 몰아보고 다니다 보면 이 차만의 매력이 무엇인지 알 수 있다고 해야 정답이 아닐까 합니다.

모든 것이 다 그렇듯 외형만을 보고 판단하다가 실망하는 경우도 많습니다. 필자는 미니가 좋다고 하지만, 어떤 이들은 미니만의 매력이라고 하지만 그것을 불편함이라고 생각하는 오너들로 부터 외면 당하는 것도 있는 것 또한 사실 입니다.

그러나 미니의 오너들은 이러한 불편함 조차 미니만의 매력이라고 할 만큼 팬층이 두터운 자동차 이며, 역사와 그 만의 가치를 가지고 있는 확실한 아이덴터티를 가진 자동차임은 분명하며 그것이 바로 브랜드의 가치가 아닌가 합니다.

오늘 보게된 미니는 이미 타보았던, 그리고 도로에 이미 달리고 있는 여러 다른 미니와 그렇게 큰 차이는 없어보였습니다.

그러나 오랜만에 서보게 된 미니의 차체는 분명 예전의 그 미니들 보다 더 커보였다고 하면 어떨까요?
물론 그 크기가 커진 것 보다는 그 차가 가진 매력이 더 커 보였다는 것 입니다.

사실 실내에서 보고 있는 미니는 밖에서 느끼는 것 보다 훨씬 더 커 보인 것은 사실이나 이는 시각적으로 왜곡된 현상임은 알면서도 그렇게 느껴지는 이유는 그 만큼 기대가 커서 그런 것이 아닌가 합니다.

가장 많은 변화를 보이고 있는 부분은 무엇보다 고급트림에 들어가는 HUD 시스템 입니다.

다른 BMW 처럼 유리에 비치는 것이 아니라 컴바이너를 통하여 반사된 이미지를 보는 것인데요. 기술적으로 오히려 유리에 직접 비추면서 허상거리를 만들어 내는 것 보다 가격적인 면에서 소비자들에게 더 유리 할 수 있어 보였습니다.

또 출력면에 있어서도 트윈터보를 장착하여 기존의 싱글터보에서 느겼을 출력의 아쉬움을 더 많이 보충 해 주었것으로 예상이 됩니다. 그러나 이 부분은 아직 시승을 하기 전이라 실제로 운행을 해봐야 하는 것이지만, 1500cc에서 싱글터보 일때도 사실 그렇게 출력에 모자름은 느끼지 못했던 것으로 기억이 됩니다.

다만 트윈터보가 되면서 순간출력 뿐만 아니라 지속적인 힘을 유지 할 수 있는 것이 아닐까 조심스럽게 예상해 봅니다.

각 모델에 따라 그 특성이 좀 명확해 지고 있다고 볼 수 있는데요.
 
일단 기본적인 3 DOOR의 경우 그 날렵함 만큼이나 오너 중심의 스타일이라 생각 됩니다.

싱글족 또는 젊고 스포티함을 추구하고 원래의 미니만이 가질 수 있는 컴팩트함에서 느낄 수 있는 매력을 그대로 담고 있습니다.

​​조그셔틀의 모양도 조금의 변화를 가지고 있으며, 기존에 없었던 HUD가 추가 되는 등 운전의 재미를 더하고 있음은 분명 합니다. HUD 등은 상위 트림에서 제공하며 기본 트림에서는 제공 되지 않는점은 조금 아쉽기도 하였습니다.

과거에는 심각하게 보지 않았던, 그리고 미니라고 생각하지 않았던 클럽맨이 매장의 정중앙에 자리잡고 있는데요.

도시적인 이미지의 남성에게 잘 어울리는 묘한 매력을 가지고 있습니다. 길어진 휠베이스와 그 덕분에 넉넉해진 뒷자리의 레그룸, 트렁크 적재공간 및 좌우로 열리는 트렁크 도어와 늘씬한 차체는 하차감(?)을 새롭게 하고 있었습니다.

물론 이러한 상상을 하게 된 연유에는 클럽맨의 장점과 나의 이미지와 잘 어울리는 미니 모델을 클럽맨으로 추천하면서 말씀하신 딜러(최은성 딜러)분의 달콤한 유혹도 한몫 하였음은 부정 할 수 없는 부분 입니다.

5 DOOR 는 그 동안 3 DOOR 미니에서 부족했던 도어를 늘려 혼자만의 즐거움이 아닌 나와 가족을 위한 가정적인 스타일로 여겨졌습니다. 물론 가족들이 같이 타는 차라는 인식이 있는 것이 아니라 그러한 이미지가 더 잘 어울린다는 뜻 입니다.

큰 미니를 원한다면 당연히 제일 사이즈가 큰 컨트리맨을 빼 놓을 수 없을 것 입니다. 그러나 컨트리맨은 미니의 미니다움을 벗어나도 너무 벗어난 듯한 인상을 받는 것은 부정 할 수 없는데요. 그래도 미니만이 가지는 미니 다운 SUV가 아닐까 합니다.

아마 SUV만 늘어놓고 봤을 때, 미니만의 매력이 넘칠 것 같기도 하지만 미니만의 세상에서는 아직은 좀 덜 숙성된 부분이 있는 것은 사실인 듯 느껴집니다.

미니는 작은 차라서 사고나면 어떻게 될까 생각하게 되는 부분은 어쩔 수 없지만,

사진에서 보는 것과 같이 성인의 손 한뻠이 될 정도의 두툼한 도어와 문이 닫힐 때의 묵직한 소리는 깡통소리가 나는 다른 소형 승용차들과는 비교가 되지 않는 심리적인 안정감을 준다고 봅니다.

확바뀐 파워트레인의 힘을 느껴 보진 못했지만 제원상으로 이미 알것 같은 그런 민첩함과 안정감이 기대 됩니다.

진동이 많은 디젤차는 어쩔 수 없지만, 휘발유 차량의 경우에도 어느 정도의 소음과 진동을 감수해야 하고 딱딱한 셋팅 자체가 처음에는 많은 부담감으로 작용하기도 하지만 그 자체가 이미 미니만의 매력이라는 미니…..

그것이 마케팅의 힘인지 정말 입소문을 통한 오너들의 사랑을 말하는지 더 경험하고 연구해 봐야 하지만,

일전에도 이야기 했던 것 처럼,

저 차(mini)를 3~4천에 왜 사서 타고 다니지(?) 나라면 국산 중형차 타고 다닌다. 라고 말하는 당신이라면 국산/수입차의 문제를 떠나 미니를 며칠만 타보면 그 이유를 알 수 있을 것이라 판단됩니다.

물론 개인의 경제적인 상황은 배제하고 자동차의 매력 그 자체에 관한 것만을 이야기 한 경우이기 때문에 다른 오해는 없었으면 합니다.
 

지금까지 BMW MINI 용산전시장을 방문하고 느껴 본 미니만의 매력에 대한 이야기였습니다.
