한국형 카체이싱 영화라고 하여야 할까요?
한국영화에서 자동차와 스피드가 중심이 된 영화를 찾기 쉽지 않은데 과감하게 제작을 하였다고 보여집니다.
뺑소니사고 전담반의 활약과 그들의 능력이 필요했던 내사과의 두뇌싸움
그 속에서 벌어지는 경찰내 권력의 암투와 검은돈
자수성가한듯 보이는 스피드광 JS모터스의 정재철 회장(조정석)은 자신의 자동차경주사업을 위해 관련자들에게 뇌물을 주며 증거를 모아두는데요. 그 증거를 찾아내기 위해 경찰의 내사과에서는 은시연 경위를 뺑반으로 전출시켜 정재석회장의 뺑소니 사건을 수사하며 뇌물공여 증거를 찾아오게 만듭니다.
위계질서와 절차에 길들여진 은시연 경위는 자기만의 경험을 바탕으로 수사를 진행하는 서민재 순경의 태도와 수사방법이 마음에 들지 않습니다. 그렇지만 그의 예상들은 정확했고 사건을 해결하게 되는데요.
돈과 권력 그 커넥션을 가지고 트랙이든 공도이든 갑질을 일삼는 스피드광 정재철 회장의 모습은 누구든 참기 힘든 불쾌감을 선사해 줍니다.
영화를 보게 된다면 알게될 서민재 순경의 과거와 현재의 모습은 그가 이 영화에서 얼마나 중요하고 누가 주인공인지 다시 찾아보게 만듭니다.
매력적인 마세라티와 BMW M3, 도요타의 86, 페라리 등 볼거리들을 제공하고는 있지만 대표적인 자동차 카체이싱 영화가 된 ‘분노의 질주’와 비교하기는 힘든건 당연합니다. 그래도 나름대로 그 차들이 가지고 있는 매력들을 보여주고는 있습니다. 비용 때문이겠지만 확실히 비싼 차가 움직이는 모습은 보기가 힘듭니다.
영화를 보며 자동차를 좋아하는 사람으로서 불편했던 순간들이 있다면, 자신이 믿고 아끼며 잘 다루며 타야하는 자신의 차에 대한 옳지 못한 태도를 보여주는 정재철 회장의 모습입니다. 자동차 자체에 대한 문제 뿐만 아니라 그가 차를 타며 바라보는 타인들에 대한 배려와 마인드는 지금도 벌어지고 있는 갑질문화 처럼 거부감이 들도록 만듭니다.
극중 인물의 괴팍함 그래서 선악의 구도를 만들어야 함에 당연하다 생각이 들면서도 튜닝카로 나오는 닷지 챌린저의 모습은 ‘빈 디젤’의 애마로 이미지가 각인된 영화애호가나 자동차 마니아들에겐 기대 이하의 모습을 보여주고 있으며 그런 거부감이 오히려 영화에 더 관심이 가게 만들수 있을 것 같습니다.

분명 촬영도 어렵고 보여줄 수 있는 부분도 많은 한계가 있습니다. 그래도 영화속 뺑반이 사고 해결을 위해 찾아 분석해야 하는 많은 내용에 대한 부분이나 돈 많은 스피드광의 컨셉트카를 보여주는 부분에서 마니아들의 광기에 불을 지필 수 있는 양념을 좀 더 부어주었다면 더 좋지 않았을까하는 아쉬움도 남습니다.
사실 자동차에 대한 부분에 있어 많은 부분 아쉬움이 남는 것은 사실입니다. 자동차와 스피드에 열광할 수 밖에 없는 이유. 자동차의 메커니즘 그리고 보는 사람들로 하여금 호기심을 자극하기도 하고 누구나 가지고 있지만 잠자고 있던 숨겨진 질주 본능을 일깨우거나 위험과 불법을 저지르면서까지 달리고 싶은 욕망을 드러내는 그런 이야기가 좀 더 구체화 되었다면 더 좋았을 것 같습니다.
위에 설명한 몇몇 자동차와 관련된 부분 이외에, 이야기의 구조와 전개, 배우들의 연기 모두 분명 재미있고 잘 만들어진 영화입니다.
카체이싱과 스피드 때문에 이 영화를 선택하는 분들은 국내 영화의 한계는 어느정도 이해하시고 봐주시는게 영화를 더 재미있게 볼 수 있는 방법이라 여겨집니다.
영화를 끝까지 보신다면 후속으로 이어질듯한 분위기 속에 다음 영화가 조금 기대 되기도 합니다.
공효진, 조정석, 류준열, 염정아, 이성민, 전혜진 배우 등 연기 잘하기로 소문난 배우들이 각자의 개성을 잘 뿜어주고 있으며 류준열은 생각보다 나은 발톱을 잘 숨긴 야수 같은 배우로 성장하고 있는것으로 보입니다.
오랜만에 긴 연휴가 된 설날…
잘 만들어진 한국영화를 보면서 가족들과 오붓한 시간 함께 보내는 것도 좋을것 같습니다.
