사각지대 해소 와이드미러 장착…!!

[ 일부 차량에서는 사각지대 해소를 위하여 과다하게 거울들을 장착한 모습을 볼 수 있다. | 사진 : 윤선재 기자 ]

 

운전을 하다보면 아찔한 순간을 맞는 일이 종종 일어납니다.

특히 차선변경을 위해 주변을 잘 살폈지만 어느 순간 내 옆에 위치한 다른 차량으로 깜짝 놀라기도 하는데요.

 

최근 생산되는 자동차들의 경우 사이드미러가 처음부터 광각의 화각을 가지거나 ‘후측방경보시스템 / BSD(Blind Spot Detection)’ 의 탑재로 자동차의 사이드미러로 확인하기 어려운 사각지대의 타차량에 대한 경보를 해주어 안전운전에 도움을 주고 있고 사고도 예방하도록 하고 있습니다.

조금 더 발전된 형태의 경우는 자동차의 방향지시등을 작동시킬 때 외부의 카메라를 통하여 계기판의 모니터로 주변을 확인하도록 해주고 있습니다, (예: 현대의 넥쏘)

 

그러나 오늘 실험의 대상이 되는 2004년식 SM520과 같은 구형 차량의 경우 사이드미러의 화각은 좁고 운전을 하는 동안 사각지대 때문에 운전자는 목을 더 많이 써가며 주변을 많이 확인하는 노력을 하여야 합니다. 또는 시중에 판매하는 볼록거울 등을 부착하여 미관상 좋지 않은 결과를 초래하기도 합니다. (위 사진 참조)

 

이런 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 화각이 넓은 ‘와이드미러‘로 사이드 미러의 거울을 교체하거나 BSD 기능을 추가하는 등 운전자들은 나름의 방법을 찾고 있습니다.

 

이번에는 화각이 좁은 사이드미러를 ‘사각지대 해소 와이드미러‘로 바꾸어 사각지대를 해소해 보도록 하겠습니다.

 

예전에 타차량에 불스원의 와이드미러를 사용해 보고 사각지대 해소 와이드미러 효용성에 만족하였습니다. 하지만 결코 싸지 않은 가격은 구입을 망설여지게 만듭니다.

 

이런 가격적인 측면에서 가성비를 따지는 운전자라면 이번에 장착하게 되는 ‘한신 와이드 뷰 미러‘도 괜찮아 보입니다.

 

교체작업은 카센터에서 할 수도 있지만, 조금만 자신감을 가진다면 집에서 운전자가 충분히 교체작업을 진행할 수 있습니다.

사이드미러를 교체하기 위해서 제일 먼저 하게 되는 일은 내 차의 사이드미러를 떼어내는 일입니다. 어렵게 느껴지기도 하고 부서질까봐 겁이 나기도 하는데요.

 

일단 사이드미러의 윗부분을 끝까지 눌러주고 아랫쪽에 틈이 생기도록 만들어 줍니다. 그리고 사이미드러 커버를 잡고 적당한 힘을 주어가며 사이드미러 부분을 뜯어내듯 잡아당기면 어느 순간 한쪽씩 고정되었던 플라스틱 고리들이 빠지는 것을 느낄 수 있습니다. 여기까지 하였다면 나머지 과정도 자연스럽게 끝낼 수 있습니다.

열선이 있는 경우 연선에 연결된 전원케이블이 손상되지 않게 잘 뽑아두어야 합니다.

 

 

사이드미러를 감싸고 있는 플라스틱을 벗겨내기 위해서 히팅건 또는 헤어드라이기를 준비해 두어야 합니다. 히팅건이나 헤어드라이기로 플라스티l틱 테두리에 열을 가하고 플라스틱이 조금 부드러워지는 경우 미러를 들어올려 조심스럽게 미러를 빼내면 됩니다. 이때 플라스틱 헤라 등 도구를 이용하여 유리가 깨지지 않게 조심스럽게 빼내면 됩니다.

‘한신 와이드 뷰 미러‘의 좌/우측을 확인하고 열선을 붙인 뒤 플라스틱 커버에 미러를 장착합니다.

기자의 경우 원래 동봉된 접착 테이프가 너무 두껍게 느껴져서 아래 사진처럼 양면테이프를 이용하여 붙이기로 하였습니다. 미러의 테두리를 손으로 잘 눌러주면 미러가 케이스 안으로 들어가 위치를 자리잡게 됩니다.

이렇게 교체가 이루어진 사이더미러 부분을 자동차의 사이더미러 커버에 다시 장학하면 되는데요. 전원선을 열선에 연결한 뒤엔 동봉된 수축튜브를 이용해 서로 떨어지지 않도록 해주는 것이 좋습니다.

 

처음 분해할 때 보았던 미러의 뒷면 플라스틱 고정부분을 잘 맟추어 “따닥 ~” 하는 소리가 날때 까지 잘 눌러주며 조립은 완성 됩니다.

이렇게 장착이 완료되면 시동을 걸고 운전자에게 가장 잘 맞는 위치로 사이드미러를 조절해 주면 됩니다.

확실히 넓어진 화각이 시원하게 시야에 들어오는 것을 느낄 수 있는데요.

 

 

낮은 가격에 넓은 화각 그리고 선명하고 외곡없는 반사는 운전자에게 높은 만족감을 주고 있습니다.

 

사이드미러를 뜯어낼 수 있는 약간의 용기만 있다면, 누구나 큰 어려움 없이 ‘와이드미러‘로 교체하여 좀 더 여유롭고 안전한 운전을 즐길 수 있을 것입니다.
