지난 6월 17~18일 양일간 새로 개장한 용인 애버랜드의 스피드웨이에서 렉서스의 신형 GS모델들을 대상으로 트랙데이 행사가 열렸습니다.

2016년 부산모터쇼에서 이미 소개된 RC F, GS 450h, GS 200t를 대상으로 관심있는 소비자들에게 자동차의 성능을 경험 할 수 기회를 제공하였습니다.

필자의 경우 2016 부산모터쇼에서 렉서스의 신형 하이브리드인 GS 450h에 많은 관심이 있었던터라 이번 시승행사를 통해서 렉서스의 하이브리드를 경험해 보고자 하는 것이 주요 목적이였습니다.

행사는 약 20~30명의 고객을 초대하여 소규모 집중적인 행사가 이루어졌습니다.

드라이빙 교관으로 이미 “더 벙커”를 통하여 알려진 “권봄이” 선수 이외에 많은 교관들로 구성되어 안전한 드라이빙이 되도록 많은 배려를 하는 모습도 보였습니다.

 

서킷주행은 가감속과 브레이킹, 코너에 대한 능력을 시험할 기회라면 짐카나는 얼마나 민첩하게 차량이 반응하는지 시험 할 수 있는 좋은 기회였습니다.

이번 행사에 대한 소개와 간단한 안전교육이 있은 후, 미리 정해진 조별 운행 스케줄에 따라 3가지 종류의 차량에 대하여 서킷을 2바퀴씩 돌게 하였으며, 1인당 총 3대의 차량에 대하여 총 6회에 걸친 서킷 주행이 이루어졌습니다.

짧다면 짧을 수 있지만, 그래도 각각의 차에 대한 특성의 파악 및 차이점을 확인하는데는 충분하였다고 보여집니다. 뿐만 아니라 이번에 새로 선보이는 용인 스피드웨이는 오랜기간 동안 새롭게 단장하면서 코스의 다양성과 직진코스의 연장으로 보다 더 악셀을 깊게 밟고 거친 코너 탈출을 시도할 기회를 주었습니다.

각 차량에 따른 필자의 시승 소감을 소개하자면 다음과 같습니다.

 

GS 450h

하이브리드 자동차의 가장 큰 걱정거리인 모터에서 엔진으로의 전환시점에 느껴지는 이질감이 걱정이였습니다. 그러나 필자가 타고 저속에서 부터 고속으로 서킷에 진입하는 순간 어떤 이질감도 느끼질 못했습니다. 즉 모터로 구동되다가 엔진으로 또는 두가지 힘 모두가 작동하는 구간의 이질감을 느끼지 못했다는 것 입니다. 개인적으로 세계 1위의 하이브리드 자동차를 만든 회사의 역량이 느껴졌다고나 할까요?

주행성능에 있어서도 가속력이 답답하지도 않고 약간의 무게감이 느껴지는 것이 오히려 더 안정감을 주었다고 표현하고 싶습니다.

분명 여러가지 이유로 차의 중량이 증가 할 수 밖에 없는 상황임에도 불구하고 시원한 가속 및 변속감, 저/고속에서의 모터와 엔진의 이질감은 아마 최소화 한듯 하며, 엔진에서 뿜어져 나오는 힘은 모자란다는 생각을 가질 수 없게 하는듯 합니다.

코너의 진입과 탈출시 단순한 세단이라고 생각 할 수 없을 만큼 깔끔함을 보여주고 있었습니다.
여유있는 마력과 무단변속기의 도움이 아닌가 생각됩니다.

6기통 3500cc의 자연흡기 엔진 특유의 힘과 전기모터의 힘이 합쳐져서 순간순간 힘을 내는 것이 터보차저가 부럽지 않았습니다.
최근 일본 자동차에 많이 사용하고 있는 무단변속기가 주행의 부드러움을 더하는데 한몫 한 듯 합니다.

브레이크는 부드러워 제대로 제동이 될지 의심이 되었지만 부드러움 속의 강함이라고 할까요? BMW와 같이 딱딱하고 칼로 자르는 듯한 브레이킹은 아니더라도 부드러우면서 예측되는 부분에서 브레이킹이 잘 됩니다.

 

RC F

고성능의 스포츠카로 당연 운전자의 취향에 따른 선택이라 여겨집니다. 좋다 아니다 함부로 말하기 힘들죠.

가감속은 정말 부드러우며, 언제 속도가 올라갔는지도 모를 만큼 빠른 가속감을 보입니다.

특유의 배기 사운드는 엑셀의 밟는 깊이에 따라 악기를 연주하듯 독특한 사운드를 만들어내며, 강한 야수의 이미지 보다는 섬세한 예술가의 이미지가 떠오르는 드라이빙이였습니다.

가속력이 워낙 빠르고 용인 스피드웨이의 직선구간이 길다보니 시속 200Km/h는 금방 넘어버립니다.
참고로 BMW드라이빙센터의 직선구간은 조금 짧아 650i로 최대 190까지 올려본 것이 전부였습니다.
(BMW드라이빙센터는 올해 9월까지 확장공사를 통하여 직선구간 200km/h 가능토록 한다고 합니다.)

 

GS 200t 

같은 날 시승한 차량중에서는 보급형이고 또 주력 판매모델이기도 합니다.
가솔린 터보엔진으로 부족함이 없는 힘을 보여주고 8단 팁트로닉 미션이 여유있는 변속 및 힘을 보완해 줍니다.

터보엔진의 가장 고질적인 문제가 터보랙이지만 코너시, 가감속시, 오르막, 내리막 속도 및 RPM의 급격한 변화속에서도 터보랙에 느껴지지 않을 만큼 안정적인 이라는 인상을 주었습니다.

무선으로 들리는 인스트럭터의 “이번 200t의 경우 터보랙을 거의 느낄 수 없도록 최대한 조절하여 운전시 이질감을 최소화 하였으니 느껴보시기 바랍니다”라고 설명한 부분에서 렉서스의 200t 터보엔진의 완성도에 대한 자부심이 대단하고 판단되었습니다.

그러나 바로 이전까지 너무 성능이 뛰어난 차들을 몰아서인지…서킷의 같은 구간에서 코너의 진입과 탈출시 차가 균형을 잃는 듯한 모습을 보였으며, 운전자가 자동차의 중량이 가볍게 여기거나 벨런스의 문제로 인식 할 수 있을 정도였습니다.

개인적인 느낌으로는 차가 이전의 차량들에 비해 가벼워, 가볍게 날아갔다(?) 또는 차체제어시스템이 너무 빨리 개입되어 운전자가 생각한 라인을 제대로 그리지 못했다. 뭐 그정도가 될 수 있겠네요.

한가지 확실한 것은 직선 주행시에도 차체의 가벼움을 그대로 느낄 수 있었으며, 터보차저를 통하여 힘들게 힘을 뿜어내는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 실제 데이터상으로는 현대 소나타보다는 조금 더 무겁습니다.

이는 어찌보면 앞선 두 차량과 비교하면 안되는 당연한 가격대비 성능과 관련된 내용이네요.

지금까지 렉서스의 새로운 GS모델들을 탑승해본 시승기를 간단히 정리해 보았습니다.
